Từ lâu Juniper Network đã được biết đến là một thương hiệu uy tín với các dòng sản phẩm phân khúc tầm trung có giá thành thấp hơn so với Cisco. Juniper đặt tên theo quy tắc rõ ràng. Số đầu là dòng: EX2200 và EX2300 cho tầng truy cập, EX3300 và EX3400 có xếp chồng, EX4300 và EX4600 cho tổng hợp và lõi mạng.

Virtual Chassis — điểm mạnh riêng của Juniper

Virtual Chassis cho phép ghép nhiều switch thành một thiết bị logic duy nhất. Cả cụm dùng chung một địa chỉ IP quản trị, một tệp cấu hình, và hiện ra như một switch lớn.

Điều này khác với xếp chồng thông thường ở chỗ các switch không cần đặt cạnh nhau — Juniper cho phép ghép qua cổng uplink quang, nên switch ở các tầng khác nhau vẫn gộp được thành một cụm.

Lợi ích thực tế: thêm switch khi mở rộng mà không làm tăng số thiết bị phải cấu hình và giám sát. Khi một switch trong cụm hỏng, các switch còn lại vẫn hoạt động bình thường.

Chiều luồng gió AFI và AFO — đừng chọn nhầm

Hai hậu tố này chỉ có ở dòng EX4600 và các model trung tâm dữ liệu, nhưng chọn sai gây hậu quả thật.

AFI là Airflow In — gió vào từ phía cổng mạng, thổi ra phía nguồn. AFO ngược lại.

Trung tâm dữ liệu chuyên nghiệp bố trí theo nguyên tắc hàng nóng và hàng lạnh: khí mát thổi vào một phía, khí nóng thoát ra phía kia. Nếu lắp thiết bị sai chiều gió, khí nóng của máy này thổi thẳng vào máy bên cạnh — cả tủ quá nhiệt.

Thông số này không đổi được sau khi mua vì quạt gắn cố định. Cần xác định rõ chiều bố trí phòng máy trước khi đặt hàng.

Nguồn DC dùng khi nào?

Hậu tố -DC nghĩa là thiết bị dùng nguồn một chiều thay vì điện lưới xoay chiều.

Đây là yêu cầu bắt buộc ở nhiều trạm viễn thông và trung tâm dữ liệu lớn, nơi toàn bộ hệ thống chạy trên nguồn DC dự phòng ắc quy. Thiết bị AC không dùng được nếu không có bộ chuyển đổi riêng — mà bộ chuyển đổi lại là thêm một điểm hỏng.
